The news was certainly absurd: The United Nations voted overwhelmingly to encourage the use of world maps that more accurately represent the relative size of nations and continents, moving away from the familiar Mercator projection. The “Correct the Map” resolution was pushed by African nations and passed 164-1, with six abstentions. The lone “no” vote was, unsurprisingly, the United States.
